First Meeting of NGRBA....

The first meeting of NGRBA was held on 5th October, 2009 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. It was resolved that ;
   Under ‘Mission Clean Ganga’, no untreated municipal sewage or industrial effluent would be allowed to be discharged into Ganga by year 2020. (Currently there is a sewage treatment capacity of only about 1000 mld against 3000 mld sewage being generated in the towns along Ganga);

   An estimated investment of Rs 15,000 crores over next 10 years will be required to create the necessary treatment and sewerage infrastructure, which would be provided by Centre and States to be shared suitably between them;

   While comprehensive river basin management plan is being prepared, the States would formulate DPRs for new projects in pollution hotspots and major towns on Ganga, and major tributaries at the earliest;

   On-going projects would be put on fast-track;

   Tripartite Memorandum of Agreements will be signed by February 2010;

   Sanction of initial portfolio of projects will be accorded by March 2010;

   MoEF would work with States to prepare specific action plans to tackle industrial pollution in Ganga Basin. Read More
