Western Ghats | High Level Working Group

Consultation Process

In addition to having consultations with the concerned State Governments and Central Ministries, the High Level Working Group (HLWG) will also engage in consultations with other stakeholders. The methodology for interaction with the stakeholders is given below.

The HLWG has observed that WGEEP has had extensive consultations with various stakeholders in respect of ecology and environment preservation issues and that HLWG should not attempt to repeat what has already been done by WGEEP.  The WGEEP had approximately 40 interactions with the stakeholders.  Further, the Ministry has also received about 1200 comments through emails / posts on WGEEP report.

As regards the Stakeholders who have already been consulted by WGEEP and they still wish to have consultation with the HLWG, such stakeholders may furnish their additional comments/views to the Working Group. In case, it is felt by the Working Group that certain critical issues require further elaboration or certain clarifications are required, then the concerned stakeholders may be invited to meet the High Level Working Group. Such stakeholders would be duly informed.

During the discussions of HLWG, it was realized that there would be a need to have further consultations with stakeholders on socio-economic issues, especially those relating to use of bio-diversity and forests.  The groups / institutions / NGOs, etc., who are working on the socio-economic issues in the Western Ghats region may send their views to HLWG. In addition, Industry associations, Chambers of Commerce and other such organizations may also send their comments/views to HLWG. In case, it is felt by the Working Group that certain critical issues require further elaboration or certain clarifications are required, then the concerned stakeholders may be invited to meet the High Level Working Group. Such stakeholders would be duly informed.  The Minutes of the Meetings of HLWG would also be uploaded on the website.
