Directorate of Forest Education


The Directorate of Forest Education is responsible for controlling,coordinating and managing all the regular training courses of S.F.S. and Forest Range Officers in the country. The Directorate also organises short term special Refresher/Computer Aplication in Forestry Courses and Rural Development Courses for in-service officers.

The following colleges are under the administrative control of this Directorate :

In addition, the five State-run Forest Rangers colleges, viz. Forestry Training Institute, Halwani (U.P.), Forest Rangers College, Balaghat (M.P)_, Forest Rangers College, Angul (Orissa), Gujarat Forest Rangers College, Rajpipla (Gujarat) and Northern Eastern Forest Rangers College, Jalukbari (Assam) are also technically supervised.

The two years Diploma Course in Forestry for SFS officers is being continued in the SFS Colleges at Dehradun and Coimbatore and 40 SFS Officers have passed out, while 80 officers are under training.

One hundred fifty Range Officers have completed the two years Certificate Course from the various Forest Rangers Colleges and 220 are undergoing training.

Twelve in-service Refresher Courses, each of two weeks duration, were organised by the three SFS Colleges during the year. The average number of participants in each course ranged between 10-14.

A special course of two weeks duration on Forestry and Rural Development was organised at the State Forest Service College, Dehradun.

Comuter Laboratories have been established at SFS Colleges at Dehradun and Coimbatore. Six courses on Computer Application in Forestry each of three weeks duration were organised in these two colleges for in-service SFS and a total of 66 officers were trained during the year.
