GEF projectsThe
Global Environment Facility (GEF) helps developing countries fund sustainable development
projects that also protect the global environment. Established in 1991, GEF focuses on six
planet-wide concerns: biodiversity loss, climate change, international waters, ozone layer
depletion, land degradation, and persistent organic pollutants. GEF
brings together 166 member governments, leading development institutions, the scientific
community, and a wide spectrum of private sector and non-governmental organizations on
behalf of a common global environmental agenda.
