Description

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges that the global community has ever faced. It is being addressed collectively through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; 10 years after it was opened for signatures at the Rio Earth Summit, the Parties to the Convention meet in New Delhi, India, during 23 October-1 November 2002.

For India and other developing countries, climate change is a potential threat to sustainable development. This book highlights India's key concerns, and describes the way in which the country is responding to them. Through a multitude of government, private, and individual initiatives, the country is making serious efforts to conserve energy, harness renewables, protect forests, and enhance understanding about climate change. By adopting this climate-friendly path to development, India is contributing effectively to global efforts for protecting our planet.
