Projects endorsed for further
development by Government of India
Government of India has been willing to
fulfill its responsibility under the CDM. It has developed an interim criterion for
approval of CDM project activities which is now available to stakeholders. It has
undertaken various capacity building activities like holding of workshops, initiation of
various studies, and briefing meeting with the stakeholders. A World Bank sponsored
National Strategy Study on CDM is scheduled to start in month of October 2002. India has
been actively participating in the CDM regime and has already endorsed six projects for
further development. These are:

Prototype Carbon Fund:
Prototype carbon fund is a programme of the World Bank. Government of India has approved a
municipal solid waste energy project 'SWERF' in 2001 for implementation by EDL India
Limited in Chennai which proposes to use the state of art technology for extracting energy
from any solid waste irrespective of the energy content.

biomass 7.5 MW Power Project in the State of Maharasthra.
Kalpa Taru Energy Venture Private Limited(KEVPL) 7.5 MW biomass
project in Ganganagar district, Rajasthan using mustard crop residue as fuel for the first
time.
Vestas RRB India Limited combined 15 MW Wind Biomass Project
(Consisting of 13 MW wind and 2 MW Biomass) in the Tamil Nadu.
Vestas RRB India Limited It is 14.45 MW Wind Power Project in Tamil
Nadu with 17 nos. of state-of-the-art 850 KW Wind Electric Generators.
Suzlon Energy Limited 15 Mw Grid connected Wind Energy Project in
Sankaneri Tamil Nadu feeding electricity at 33 kV transmission. The proposed project will
install 1 MW sized wind turbine units, (average size in India is in the range of 250-300
kW), clearly showing the technology additionality.
Enercon (India) Ltd 15 MW Grid Connected Renewable Electricity
Supply Project in Nipani, Karnataka to be connected to 33 KV grid of Karnataka, India.
